About Us

Erie, Colorado was founded, settled and incorporated several years before Colorado became a state. The Erie Historical Society was founded in 1988 to preserve the rich history of this northern mining and agricultural town.

There is a fee to joing the Society as an individual, family or business. A lifetime membership is also available.

For additional information please contact Sarah Wise, Historical Society President at 303-828-4561.

Our major focus is getting Erie’s Wise Homestead Museum ready for opening next spring. We have a Certificate of Occupancy; however it is limited since we do not have water going out nor coming in. A sewer connection will cost $20,000. The cistern is full but cannot be brought into the house until we have a sewer or septic system. At present we have a port-a-pot to meet the requirement of the city. This winter we will be doing some landscaping and will begin putting items inot the museum for display. If you would like to see the museum as it is now please call Sara Wise 303.828.4561

We need members for the Erie Historical Board and vounteers for our fund raising activities. Also, we need a person with computer experience to help catalogue items given to the museum and enter them into the computer. If you are interested in any type of volunteer activity with us, please call me, Sarah Allene Wise  303.828.4561
